About the Artist

Artist Statement

For me, inspiration begins with noticing the beauty that surrounds us—the interplay of light, color, form, and atmosphere. Long before I approach the canvas, I am composing paintings in my mind, imagining how these elements will come together to create a compelling visual experience. My work is rooted in Impressionism, with an emphasis on bold compositions, expressive brushwork, and rich surface textures that invite the viewer to linger. I continually challenge myself to develop fresh approaches to complex subjects, seeking to balance strong design with the emotional qualities of a scene.

Much of my work is inspired by the lakes, rivers, forests, and mountains of New York's Adirondack region. I strive to capture not only the grandeur of the landscape but also its ever-changing light, mood, and the kaleidoscopic beauty of the seasons. My paintings also explore the harbors, villages, city streets, and countryside of Italy, as well as memorable landscapes and scenes from across the United States. Above all, my goal is to create paintings that evoke a sense of place, invite reflection, and celebrate the beauty found in the natural world.

Biography

Terry lives in a picturesque town in upstate New York at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, where the surrounding landscape serves as a constant source of inspiration. Her passion for art began in childhood and has remained an integral part of both who she is and how she experiences the world.

Her artistic journey began with pen-and-ink drawings enhanced by watercolor washes. In 2016, she discovered a deep affinity for oil painting and was drawn to its richness, luminosity, and expressive texture. Since then, she has dedicated herself to refining her skills, often incorporating cold wax medium and palette knife techniques to create depth and visual interest. More recently, Terry has embraced gouache as another expressive medium. Its portability and quick-drying qualities allow her to create fresh, vibrant paintings with clean design and striking simplicity.

Terry is an award-winning artist whose work has been featured in numerous juried exhibitions. Her paintings are held in private collections throughout the United States and internationally. She is a member of the Saratoga Arts Council and the American Impressionist Society.
